General Show FAQ's

The Cake Show is open to the public from 10:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday and Sunday, March 16 – 17, 2019.

Classes begin Friday, March 15th and run through Sunday, March 17, 2019.

Friday Classes: 11:00am – 7:00pm
Saturday Classes: 8:00am – 5:00pm
Sunday Classes: 8:00am – 3:00pm

Competition Check-in takes place Friday, March 15th from 3:00pm to 8:00pm.  Cake Entry pick up takes place March 17th after the conclusion of the Awards Ceremony (after 4pm).

Awards Ceremony will be on Sunday, March 17th starting at 4:00pm

The Exhibit Hall at The Del Mar Fairgrounds, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd, Del Mar, CA

Tickets will be $12 per person per day if purchased at the show.

Pre-sale tickets will be available at the rate of $18.00 for a weekend ticket (entrance for both Saturday & Sunday to “The Show”) or $10 one day ticket.  Pre-sale tickets will only be available until March 15, 2019.  Children 8 and under free.  Anyone signed up for the Cake Competition will receive a Weekend Ticket with their competition registration.

Yes, parking fees are:

  • $14 – autos and motorcycles
  • $23 –  RV’s
  • $23 – Fair time Preferred

Credit Cards are now accepted for parking.
New Del Mar Fairgrounds Parking Rates took effect February 1, 2018.

Note: The Del Mar Fairgrounds can change these rates. We will of course try to keep this as updated as possible.

Yes! Children are encouraged to enter the cake competition, they have their very own competition separated by age divisions.  There will be also be hands-on mini classes that kids are welcome to attend as well as a cupcake and cookie decoration area.

Once we have arranged special pricing just for you with a local hotel we will update that information here and on the Accommodations page.

No, the Del Mar Fairgrounds does not provide or rent wheel chairs, scooters, or strollers.

Once you place your order and have paid in via paypal your order status will change to “Processing”.  You will receive an email with your order details at that time.   We will change your order to “Complete” just before the show so that our order system will send you an additional email – with your tickets and class purchase information- just before the show so that you don’t have to go searching for the original email … which for some could be all the way back in November … as that is when class & ticket sales started.

Full day classes are on Friday, half day and mini classes are on Saturday and Sunday.

Everyone! We offer a variety of classes for every skill level.

For Mini Classes – Yes, children 11 and up are allowed to sign up for any of the Mini Classes. Children 10 and younger can also take any of the Mini Classes but should be accompanied by a paid Adult.
For the Full Day & Half Day Classes –Yes, children 13 and up are allowed to sign up for any of the Half or Full Day Classes. Children 12 and younger can also take any of the Half or Full Day Classes but should be accompanied by a paid Adult.

Our “Mission” is to promote and encourage cake decorating and ALL confectionery arts to everyone!

The full day classes are very in-depth, mostly hands-on classes that teach one large specific project or technique. The half day classes can vary from kids classes to advanced hands-on project based classes.  The mini classes are a quick hands-on class and are meant to teach one specific skill.

All full and half day classes must be purchased in advance because these classes are usually hands-on projects the teachers need to know their attendance numbers in order to bring supplies for each student. You will be able to sign up for the mini classes on the day of the class if there is space available. We will have tickets for sale for any mini class that is not sold out at the venue on the day of the event.

** Please note:  In some instances the Teachers will allow sign ups on the day, but this is not guaranteed.  We highly recommend signing up in advance to guarantee your seat and to avoid disappointment.

The classes vary in price. Please visit the classes page to see the cost of each class. Please Note: The class price does not include admission to the show. Admission Tickets must be purchased separately.

Yes!  We have a payment plan again this year.

If you select the payment plan at checkout.  You will be emailed an invoice for your total via a Paypal Invoice, that will be sent to the email address used to place the order. When you receive the Paypal Invoice you will have the option to partial pay the invoice or pay the invoice in full. The minimum amount due for the first payment will be 1/3 of your total and is due immediately. You may then access your invoice (using the same paypal email link) and continue to make payments, in any amount and as often as you prefer, until your invoice is paid in full. Invoices must be paid in Full by February 15, 2018. No refunds, transfers, or alterations to your order are available with the payment plan! Failure to pay your Invoice in full by February 15, 2018 forfeits all monies paid.

If you paid your invoice in full – Refunds & Transfers are available until January 6, 2018. After January 6, 2018 refunds are not available.  Classes are transferable when possible until February 1, 2018 – please notify us as soon as possible of any changes.

If you paid via the Payment Plan – No refunds or transfers are available with the payment plan. Failure to pay your invoice in full by February 1, 2018 forfeits all monies paid.

The Show organizers reserve the right to cancel classes or demonstrations. If a class or demonstration is canceled, you have the option to transfer to another event or receive a full refund. All remedies under this refund policy are limited to the language of refund policy.

No. The show theme ONLY applies to the Spectacular Cake Competition.  Please read the Official Rules for all rules and regulations.

Competition entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable at any time.
